Demo 3!
Hey everyone! Demo 3 is here!
I wasn't going to make another demo, but I'm actually going to be headed to CON-vergence, so I wanted to make a new demo to showcase the game!
This features:
- more pictures/art including finished battler (enemy) images, expressions, stills, and chapter art
- more character expressions
- redone sprites (as seen in update on March 21, 2019)
- updated or redone maps (which you might have seen in the December 03, 2018 update.)
- fully implemented chapter one.
- first time that you can fully run around the city of Copper Junction and interact with other characters (I believe? Gosh it's been so long since the second demo)
- music - hooray! No more dead silence!
- SOME bugs have been fixed (some missing expressions issues I believe have been corrected.)
- multiple quests and heart tokens to be earned!
- random stories/events that you can interact with to learn more about the characters. <3 Take your time playing the game and explore a lot, otherwise you might miss some content!
What's missing/not fixed?
- as per usual, and for this I am very sorry, but there may be some points when the game breaks. There may still be missing expressions. I encourage you to save often as you play the game so that you can try to work around these issues should they occur!
- combat system - although battlers are here and now all four girls can fight with you, the boss fights are relatively easy. The frequency of the battles is something I'm looking to change. Each character is going to have her own skill set. Seri's moves are related to dancing, Carmen's are related to karate and using a baseball bat, Brandy pretty much just hair pulls and cat scratches people, and Candace is supposed to be the healer of the group.
- sometimes, if you need to move to another area, you may have to press space/enter to do it. This is because I forgot to move some things from an action touch to an event touch. I believe I've fixed most of these issues, but in case you run into it, just try spamming the space bar or enter key.
- While you may be able to play into chapter two, I haven't fully programmed the city transitions, so you may get stuck on a map.
What do I have left to do?
- making sure shit doesn't break, which, let's face it, I'm the worst at doing this gang
- making sure each level/section has music which is appropriate for tone of scene. As in, if someone's talking about their dead grandma, there's not some happy upbeat pop song playing in the background.
- FIXING. COMBAT. SYSTEM.
- Clean up some expressions (sometimes they'll clip in/out, you might see this)
- Ensure you can be transferred from map to map and that EVERY quest can be obtained.
- Ensure that you can get all THREE of the game's endings.
- Playtest, playtest, and more playtesting.
- Create the trailer
While this is currently available on PC, I'm also looking to explore a build for Mac. I may put out one or two more demos before the game is officially released.
Thanks for following the development of Grunge. Thank you to everyone who played my broken demos, downloaded the game, and followed its development. I really appreciate you. This is my first time making a game w/o any prior experience, and it's been astounding to see the support for my little passion project. Thanks so much.
